Where It All Began, and How It Lives with You Now

When we first started Salted three years ago, the bodysuit wasn’t even part of the plan.

The original idea was simple. We were creating active bras and shorts you could wear in the water, pieces that felt functional, supportive, and easy to move in. Swimwear that didn’t feel precious. Swimwear you could actually live in.

Right at the very end of development, one more idea came up.
A bodysuit.

It felt like a risk. Something that sat just outside what people expected to wear for training, for the gym, or even for the ocean. But Salted was never about following a rulebook. We weren’t designers by trade. Just two people making pieces for our real, everyday women.

We train. We run. We surf. We swim. Every single day.
And we wanted one piece that could move through all of it, something you could train in, run in, surf in, and then slip straight into the ocean without changing or overthinking it.

So we trusted our instinct and went for it.

That last-minute bodysuit became one of the first true active swim bodysuits, designed to move effortlessly from land to water, from sweat to salt. And somehow, it went on to become our global bestseller.

But what truly shaped the Black Active Swim wasn’t just how we wore it. It was how you did.

You took it into your own routines. Into early-morning swims, long training sessions, surf retreats, yoga classes, beach days that turned into afternoons, and lives that didn’t stay in one place. You showed us that swimwear could be more than just something you put on for the water.

As the years passed, one thing became clear. You weren’t asking for something different. You were asking for more ways to wear what already worked.

Now, as Salted approaches another year, returning to the Black Active Swim felt natural. Not as a reinvention, but as a continuation. A way to honour the pieces that started everything, while letting it evolve alongside the lives it was made for.

This is a collection built on movement, intuition, and listening.
Designed for the way you move now.
Rooted in where we began, and shaped by where you’ve taken it.

The Black Active Swim returns on January 24.
